What to Expect

A word of advice: Kambo should always be administered by a trained practitioner or someone with experience and who supervises your session at all times.  Improper application or ignorance of contraindications for Kambo poses unnecessary risks to your health and may well jeopardize the use of Kambo for everyone.

A typical Kambo group ceremony lasts between 3 and 4 hours, while private sessions last between 1.5 and 2 hours. The time spent in the peak of the cleansing/purgative process can be as short as 10 minutes. Kambo is a very physical experience which involves a feeling of heat in the body usually followed by nausea and vomiting and sometimes evacuating from the intestines as the body purges toxins from the various organs.

Once the Kambo is applied to the skin, it courses through the body via the lymphatic system.  Most people experience a warm to hot flush in the upper body and face as the heart begins to beat faster.  At this point, people tend to react differently, with some feeling dizzy, weak and possibly faint.  It’s common for the throat to slightly and gently swell, remember this is normal and doesn’t last long and most importantly, it will not swell shut. It is also common for the face and lips to swell. Some will have a tingling sensation on the skin or feelings of pressure, discomfort or warmth depending on where the Kambo is working.  At some point, you will feel the need to purge. It is both common and highly desirable for a deep purge to occur.  This can take any number of forms including vomiting, diarrhea or loose stools, sweating and/or emoting.   If you need to go to the bathroom, someone will wait to assist you. The purging doesn’t last for very long and it is integral to the healing action you’ll receive.  Just remember that the discomfort you feel is the accumulation of your body’s own toxins that the Kambo is now releasing and that the act of purging eliminates physical, emotional and energetic toxins.

Throughout the session, remember to relax and focus on the experience. It is helpful to focus on your breath: Inhale allowing the secretions’ peptides to do their work with love and trust, exhale and surrender to the experience. After the purge is complete (approximately 20 minutes, the Kambo dots will be removed from your body and the major part of your cleanse is over.

It’s customary to rest after your session.  Within thirty minutes or so, you will feel normal and you can eat and drink as you wish.  If you experience a surge of energy after your treatment, scale back your activities because your body has put a lot of energy into the process.  If possible, continue to refrain from alcohol and any recreational drugs after the session to allow the detox to fully integrate within your system.  Most people feel really good the next day, noticeably calm yet having a new supply of energy and focus.

One fascinating aspect of his process is that the mind often becomes clearer and more focused; some people say they receive specific messages from spirit or their higher self. The benefits that many people report usually come in the days and weeks that follow their session, however, many people report feeling very peaceful immediately after the treatment and often the next day they feel amazing.
